Oh, What A Tangled Web
Picture, if you will, a vast canyon. The canyon is in the depths of an inferno. Darkness is found in every crack and crevice. The only way to leave, is to walk directly through the paths that you create for yourself. The canyon walls have ears. The inferno has eyes. Every single move you make is watched by demons lurking in the shadows. Your only defense, is your mind. Your only armor, is your spirit. The only thing keeping you sane, is your heart. The only thing that is keeping you from being completely consumed by the inferno that surrounds you...is you. This is not a dream. It is not a fantasy. It is not even a nightmare. This, is the realm of the elder. What are 'demons' to us, are nothing but mere mortals to you. We are not born. We are made. We are self made. Blood line or not, we are not genetically inclined to follow any particular path. The fact is; most of those who are born from the blood line of a Pagan elder, will never have the slightest inclination to walk that path themselves. Curiosity may get the better of them at some point in their lives, but that is where it will end. Questions will go unanswered, or passed off as nothing more than a mere 'religious infatuation'. Yet, novices will never fully understand that elders have walked through more levels of an eternal battlefield, than they will ever dream of within their entire lives.
Truth be told, most elders only become aware of the fact that they may have come from a Pagan blood line, later on in their lives. It is not until an elder starts to become fully aware of his/her abilities, and surroundings, that they will come to realize that this is not something that 'just happened' to them. That's when they also realize that there has been a new path laid before them, by them, which they must follow, if for no other purpose than to find the truth within their own existence. There are some cases, such as mine, where that path will lead them into brick walls which were built by their ancestors. From that point, it takes much more than a bit of book reading and on-line researching. The truth, however, is something that can never be held from an elder. We are far too keen for that. We may not react. We may not let you know that we already know the truth behind things. Rest assured....we know. We will always know. One way or another, we will know. Elders are so good at finding the truth, that we can make the FBI look like it's constructed of nothing but play dolls and lego blocks. Trust and believe, there is much more to what we're hearing, seeing and feeling, than what we're letting on to.
Take heed, for an elder will rarely ask a question that he/she does not already know at least part of the answer to. We are not only listening to what you do say, but also, and most importantly, to what you do not say. When you tell us that you are 'fine', and are smiling....we will have already known if you are lying. Elders do not lie. Rather, we are masters at hiding. We will simply not tell you everything. We will not lie, but you will never get 100% of anything from us. This is part of who, and what, we are. Most elders are warded/protected beyond recognition. Only another elder can truly 'see' what we are, and who we are. Most of us, can not bear to watch the news on television. Why? Because what we hear, and what we see, do not mash with what we feel, and what we think. We generally shy away from talk shows, radio programs and any type of media that is anything more than sheer fantastical entertainment. We're even picky with the types of movies we watch, even though 99% of them are nothing but pure fiction. Those that are 'based on a true story', are rarely watched. If we do watch, it's for our personal entertainment purposes only, not for 'gathering insight into someone else's lives'. If we truly cared about that, we'd dig ourselves. Simply put - we just don't have time for that shit. You want to know, you do the digging. We're not shovel pushers.
We are the ones your mother warned you about in the dark places of life. We are the untouchables of the spiritual realms. We walk in the path of Mother Gaia. We are at one with the entire Universe. We understand that science and nature are not individuals. They are one in the same. We are the 'wierdos' that people whisper about to each other. In the same turn...we are what society would call 'normal'. We have an almost permanent mask upon us, and surrounding us. We are your neighbors, your friends, your family members. Yet, we are singular. Over the thousands of years, we have come to understand that there are certain social expectations we must abide by in order to continue on our paths. We do not hide. We mask. For elders, there is an extremely huge difference between the two. Our mask is not one of deception, but one similar to that of a spider. It is external. Not internal. Web spiders can't physically see much farther than the tips of their noses. Yet, they are so adept at killing, that they are more feared than ambush spiders. Web spiders will weave some of the most breath-taking, artistic webs anyone has ever seen. As beautiful as these can be, they are nothing more than literal death traps for anything that happens to get snagged in the webs. The spider moves swiftly, with pure accuracy. Before the prey has a chance to escape, the spider has already begun the process of liquefying the innards of the prey....for food. Much is the same with an elder.
To the novice, elders seem no different than they are. The novice may even go so far as to 'boast' about having been a practicing Pagan 'all of their lives', or 'for at least the past 10 years'. Elders will respond with a polite 'that's nice'....and will leave it at that. Just remember, that one statement the novice has made, served nothing more than to allow that elder to put that novice in a checkmate position anytime he/she wishes to, and for any purpose they choose to. Elders will teach novices the hard way....the olde way. Live and learn. Trial and error. Lather, rinse, repeat. Tough love....the toughest. Thinking that you will ever win a waged war against an elder is akin to taking a beach ball to fight off an angry fire-breathing dragon. The second you try to challenge an elder, can be considered the second you just lost your first battle. The difference? The elder will never allow you to have a second chance....for anything. They will bury you. Their philosophy is as follows: If you thought you could challenge me and win....I am nothing compared to the demons you just unleashed upon yourself. Go on. I'll be right here waiting for you....if you return. If you do return, then I will begin training you properly, so that you too can walk the path of an elder. Not until then though.
Keep in mind, however, that if you dare take on the training from an elder, it will be the same as an assassin being trained by a master assassin. We will give you only enough information to help you survive for a bit longer than most. Outside of that, you're on your own. Advice for a novice? Start reading. Start taking your path out of the light, and building it into the depths of the shadows. It is only then that you will be able to truly begin to understand what the very early years of an elder was like. And please, for the love of anything you consider even remotely sacred, do not come to an elder and try to tell them that you have already been through your own 'hell'. You know nothing of hell when it comes to an elder. You may have had a rough child hood. You may have been through self- inflicted tragedies. You may have loved and lost. Yet, as much 'hell' as you think you've been through....you have been through nothing but a sunny walk in the park to an elder. So please, think twice before speaking with anything other than complete and utter respect to an elder. Just....don't do it. Elders are the 'elite of the elite'. Novices should not approach an elder with any less respect than they would give to Mother Gaia herself. Period!!
